Goodbye 2013 Hello 2014

The new year is approaching fast and before we know it, HELLO 2014. A lot of things I am hoping for in the new year is bringing awareness of child abuse in foster care for the main part. However, I will be traveling quite a bit in the new year speaking in many different places in GA about Family Preservation to Congressmen and Women alike. I think it’s time that parents pull together on this to make things happen.

In speaking to COMMISSIONERS I am hoping to get the message across in how we badly need to restore family preservation tactics in the CPS cases, and the courts. I think it should be paramount that family preservation is necessary to keep from tearing innocent families apart.

The members of the Georgia Coalition for Child Protection Reform have encountered the child welfare system in their professional capacities. Through GACCPR, we work to make that system better serve America’s most vulnerable children by trying to change policies concerning child abuse, foster care and family preservation.

Basic, concrete help. Sometimes it may take something as simple as a rent subsidy, or a place in a day care center (to avoid a “lack of supervision” charge) to keep a family together. Indeed, the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development has a Family Unification Program, in which Section 8 vouchers are reserved for families where housing is the issue keeping a family apart
or threatening its breakup. Localities must apply for these subsidies.

By doing so, they effectively acknowledge what they typically deny: that they do, in fact, tear
apart families due to lack of housing. CONTACT: Ruth White, Executive Director National Center for Housing and Child Welfare (866) 790-6766, Ms. White also is a member of the NCCPR Board of Directors, (National Coalition for Child Protection Reform).

I want to be able to speak more on ways to keep families together and I think that this would be a good start to do just that. If you are in GA and would like to participate or join in our “cause” please contact Paige Roberts at to express your feelings, suggestions and any other means that is related to this issue “Family Preservation”. Thanking you in advance for your support in 2014 for this cause.
